Server-to-Server VPN

Server / Client Part
  1. Stop WinRoute on both ends (if it is installed).
  2. On the New York (63.23.58.1) end:

      Incoming connection setup

    1. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Network Connections,double-click Make a new connection and click Next.
    3. Select Accept Incoming connections and click Next.
    4. Do NOT select any device and click Next.
    5. Select Allow Virtual Private Connections and click Next.
    6. Choose the users that will be authorised to establish the connection from the remote end (you can set a password in the Properties section) and click Next.
    7. Go to Properties of the TCP/IP protocol, tick Allow callers to access my local area network. Select Specify TCP/IP addresses and enter a range from 172.16.1.1 to 172.16.1.2 (2 addresses total). Do NOT tick Allow calling computer to specify its own IP address. Click OK and Next.




    8. Click Finish.

      Outgoing connection setup

    1. Go to Network Connections again. Double-click Make a new connection. Click Next.
    2. Select Connect to a private network through the Internet, click Next.
    3. Select Do not dial an initial connection, click Next.
    4. Enter 194.20.55.39 (Nice) into the IP field and click Next.
    5. Choose whether all users or only yourself will be allowed to establish the connection and click Next.
    6. Choose a name for the connection. You might want to tick Add a shortcut on a desktop for this connection. Click Finish.
    7. You do not need to enter any username/password details just yet. Click Properties, go to the Options tab and tick Redial if line is dropped.
      NOTE: It is important here that you do not set the time between redial attempts less than 1 minute. We recommend setting this between 3 and 5 minutes.




    8. Go to the Networking tab, enter the Properties of the TCP/IP protocol. Go to Advanced and UNCHECK Use default gateway on remote network.




    9. Click OK three times and then Cancel.
  3. On the Nice (194.20.55.39) end:
    1. Incoming connection setup

    2. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel.
    3. Double-click Network Connections,double-click Make a new connection and click Next.
    4. Select Accept Incoming connections and click Next.
    5. Do NOT select any device and click Next.
    6. Select Allow Virtual Private Connections and click Next.
    7. Choose the users that will be authorised to establish the connection from the further end (you can set a password in the Properties section) and click Next.
    8. Go to Properties of the TCP/IP protocol, tick Allow callers to access my local area network. Select Specify TCP/IP addresses and enter a range from 172.16.2.1 to 172.16.2.2 (2 addresses total). Do NOT tick Allow calling computer to specify its own IP address. Click OK and Next.
    9. Click Finish.

      Outgoing connection setup

    1. Go to Network Connections again. Double-click Make a new connection. Click Next.
    2. Select Connect to a private network through the Internet, click Next.
    3. Select Do not dial an initial connection, click Next.
    4. Enter 63.23.58.47 (New York) into the IP field and click Next.
    5. Choose whether all users or only yourself will be allowed to establish the connection and click Next.
    6. Choose a name for the connection. You might want to tick Add a shortcut on a desktop for this connection. Click Finish.
    7. You do not need to enter any username/password details just yet. Click Properties, go to the Options tab and tick Redial if line is dropped.
    8. Go to the Networking tab, enter the Properties of the TCP/IP protocol. Go to Advanced and Uncheck Use default gateway on remote network. Click OK three times and then Cancel.
  4. Connect to the VPN from both ends - i.e. double click the "b)" connections you created on both ends, enter the approptiate username and password for a user chosen earlier and click Connect.
  5. On the New York end open a DOS Prompt and enter the following line:

    route add -p 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 172.16.2.2
  6. On the Nice end open a DOS Prompt and enter the following line:

    route add -p 10.1.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 172.16.1.2
  7. You can close the connections on both ends.
