Why are all the options on the DHCP server tab greyed out?
Make sure you are selecting the network card that connects to the Local Area
Network in the combo menu. This network card must have a static IP address
assigned to it.
Why won't WinRoute dial on demand?
One possible reason is that there is a default gateway already in place. If you perform the route
print function from a command window you should not see a default route for
destination network 0.0.0.0. If you type route, the command window will show you
how to remove a route. Note that dial-on-demand does not work from the WinRoute
host computer unless the TCP/IP properties are pointing to the localhost as the
DNS server and WinRoute's DNS forwarder is enabled. Also note that in this
scenario it is imperative that you do NOT select the first option to forward all
queries to the DNS servers known to the operating system, as this will cause an
infinite loop of DNS requests. If you have installed Microsoft's DNS server,
WinRoute's dial-on-demand feature will only work if the IP to host resolution is
cached, otherwise the request will be discarded by the TCP/IP stack because
there is no gateway for which to forward the packet.
What do the connections in the Active Connections window
indicate?
If you saw three connections for one of your client
machines this would indicate that three different connections are occurring
simultaneously. This could be a web page being browsed, mail being sent or
received, anti-virus software being updated or even a DNS request. The
purpose of this window is to show which computers are actively sending or
receiving traffic to the Internet.
How do I enter my registration key into WinRoute Lite?
To enter the license key into Lite, make sure the WinRoute engine is running. Go to
the General tab from the administration utility and click on the ‘License’
button. The first half of your license number and the size of the license will
appear after you have successfully entered your license.
What if I have more computers than my license is for?
Our licensing is for the server computer and the total number of connections going
through it (a three-user license supports two networked computers and the server
computer). If the license is exceeded WinRoute will report this in the Logs tab
and in the error.log. You can view active connections from the Active
Connections window on the General tab.
How do I configure WinRoute to work with Windows DNS service for Active Directory?
In Active Directory environments each workstation must rely on the DNS service of Windows in order to resolve names of other
workstations. The Windows DNS service is the initial point of contact for all
queries; therefore it must be configured to answer all non-local requests (e.g.
www.yahoo.com). In this scenario you must
disable the DNS Proxy in WinRoute Lite. In the DNS server manager of Windows you
should configure the server as either a root name server or as a forwarder only.
For configuration of Microsoft DNS service refer to the following links:
Q260371, Q301191.
What type of virtual private networking (VPN) works with WinRoute
Lite?
WinRoute Lite works with Microsoft VPN (PPTP). WinRoute Lite
currently supports multiple PPTP VPN connections from the WinRoute network to
different VPN servers on the Internet. You cannot configure the
WinRoute Lite computer as a PPTP VPN client. Lite does not support
IPSEC.
How do I configure my Macintosh for an Internet connection through
WinRoute Lite?
To configure your Macintosh to work on your network
behind WinRoute, you can configure the Macintosh TCP/IP control panel for
"Configure using DHCP Server" if you are using WinRoute's built-in DHCP server.
If you select "Configure Manually", set the Router and Name server address
entries to be the local IP address of the WinRoute host and assign the Macintosh
an IP address in the same subnet.
How do I backup/save my WinRoute Lite configuration?
All WinRoute settings are stored in the Windows Registry under
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Kerio/WRLite. This path is the same for all supported Operating
Systems. Select the WinRoute Key value and choose to export to a file. The
export option varies from OS, but should be available in the menu items of the
Registry Editor. The engine must be stopped before this key may be imported into
the new version of WinRoute.
The log window in WinRoute Lite reports NAT: GO 'connection limit
reached'. What does it mean and can it be fixed?
WinRoute allocates
a maximum of 128 simultaneous connections per host on the network. Some
applications, typically those using stateless protocols, will require more than
the allowed 400 NAT allocations. It is possible to increase this capacity within
the registry under HKLM/software/Kerio/WRLite. The specific value is called
'natconnlimitperhost'. Before modifying this value make sure to stop the
WinRoute engine or the changes will not take affect. Note also that WinRoute's
entire NAT pool has a capacity of 4000 entries. If necessary you may also
increase this value up to 20,000 using the value 'NatTableSize'. It is
recommended that you marginally increase these values and monitor the error log
to determine a sufficient capacity.
Why won't my computer shut down after installing WinRoute?
On Windows 98/ME machines, this issue can be caused if
“FastReboot” is enabled.
Try the following:
- Click on Start and go to the Run line.
- Type msconfig and click on the “Ok” button
- Click on the button labeled “Advanced” on the General tab
- Make sure “Fast Shutdown” is disabled. If you do not see an option for “Fast Shutdown” there then continue with steps 5 through 7
- Open up the registry editor. Go to the Start button and then to "Run" and type in "regedit" and click OK
- Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlShutdown
- Modify “FastReboot” to “0”
